Curriculum

It's All About Interaction

For any student, learning to play a musical instrument can provide hours of fun, creativity and self exploration. Music education also teaches discipline and develops critical thinking skills, and it helps young people build self-esteem, team work and a greater appreciation for art and culture.

Learning to play the piano requires that students develop a variety of skills while integrating senses of sight, sound, touch with conscious and muscle memory. Building and improving these skills takes frequent and quality practice. For young beginners, this can often be a challenge. Musicommand’s team of master educators recognized that while practicing should be fun, it should also be productive from a learning standpoint. In addition to the music games, the curriculum built into Musicommand is designed to train students to focus on five core skill areas both separately and simultaneously. Musicommand offers a variety of games designed to build core skills in music theory, note reading, ear training, rhythm and technique.

Musicommand’s curriculum was developed by a team of noted master educators and performers utilizing applicable standards set forth by the National Association of Music Educators as well as the Music Teachers Association of California, in addition to the individual teaching philosophies these valuable contributors have to offer.

Musicommand currently offers first year of piano, and will soon offer tracks tailored specifically for years one and two of piano, violin, viola, cello, flute, and clarinet.

Included in all phases of the curriculum are:

  • Midi accompaniments to develop and solidify students' listening capabilities
  • Optional group pieces to engage students through ensemble playing
  • Integrated rhythmic exercises, sequentially ordered to present basic rhythmic values before slowly introducing syncopation, ties and other complexities
  • Technical exercises designed to make repertory learning easier
  • Supplementary selections at all levels to ensure advancing students are continually challenge
