Games

Musicommand’s initial launch includes ten games that cover five areas of skill development.

Note Reading
Games include “Strike Out” baseball game, “City Track” car racing game, and “Firefighter”
The note reading games help students improve their ability to recognize and play back notes and groups of notes. Skills taught include reading individual and multiple notes on the treble and bass clefs, quarter notes, eighth notes, half notes, and whole notes. Various intervals and three note chords are introduced in various registers.

Ear Training
Games include “Coqui the Frog” and “Sound Safari”
The ear training games help students develop aural memory by teaching them to recognize pitch patterns and relationships, and for some students actual pitch names. Skills taught include recognizing whole steps and half steps to introduce flats and sharps, as well as helping students understand and be able to differentiate intervals of thirds through sevenths.

Rhythm
Games include “Taiko Drum” and “Telegraph”
Rhythm games are designed to help students improve their ability to recognize and play back various rhythmic patterns while developing their aural memory. Games include both single-line and two-line rhythms. Patterns increase in complexity throughout the program and syncopated patterns are eventually introduced.

Technique
Current game available is “Piano”
The technique game provides exercises for hands separate and together to help develop finger dexterity and fine motor skills, good fingering habits, and to teach scales and cadences.

Theory
Games include “Be a Music Maestro” and “Market Madness”
Theory games are designed to teach students everything from basic note symbols to chord symbols to music terminology. With the theory games, students learn the language of music in a fun and systematic way, and this helps reinforce what they are learning in the other skill areas.
