Piano Program - Course 3

Lesson One - Learn A Minor and D Minor

The objective of this chapter is to introduce a minor and d minor key signature and harmonic minor scale, and continue repertory in d minor while adding technique in a minor.

 

 

Lesson Two - Relative Major and Minor Keys

The objective of this chapter to review d minor key signature and harmonic minor scale, and continue repertory in d minor while adding technique in a minor, 6/8 time, arpeggios.

 

 
Lesson Three - Harmonic Minor Form and Sixteenth Notes

The objective of this chapter is to polish the d minor repertory selection entitled Desert Night. Continue with harmonic minor scales and cadences. Introduce 16th notes and pick up notes.

 

 
Lesson Four - Seventh Chords

The objective of this chapter is to introduce major, minor and dominant sevenths, and to become more proficient on the Schytte Etude and the Gypsy Dance.

 

 
Lesson Five - Legato Thirds

The objective of this chapter is to become more proficient with Gypsy Dance, and to work on playing legato thirds through the study of the Etude in G by Beyer.

 

 
Lesson Six - More About Harmonies

The objective of this chapter is to complete Gypsy Dance, and to continue to work on playing legato thirds through the study of the Etude in G by Beyer.  Summer Breeze will be introduced to develop ensemble skills through the study of a duet/optional ensemble piece, and Greensleeves as an optional solo piece.

 

 
Lesson Seven - Key of E Minor

The objective of this chapter is to continue working on and improving playing sixteenth notes, legato thirds and playing in new keys. Explore the repertory selection Distant Chimes.

 

 
Lesson Eight - More Harmonic Minor Scales

Become more proficient with Distant Chimes, continue with minor scales and cadences. Add Fur Elise.

 

 
Lesson Nine - Sight Reading in Major Keys

The objective of this lesson is to improve sight reading proficiency, introduce technical exercises of Charles Hanon, and to polish Distant Chimes, and continue Fur Elise

 

 
Lesson Ten - Sight Reading in Minor Keys

The objective of this lesson is to play the Hanon exercise hands together, and to increase sight reading ability in the keys of a, d and e minor, and polish Fur Elise.

 

 
Lesson Eleven - Course 3 Review

The objective of this lesson is to prepare solo and ensemble repertoire for concert performance, review all 6 keys presented thus far, and play the Hanon exercise hands together at MM=60.  A rhythm exercise with multiple meter changes is also included to increase adaptability in rhythmic performance.
